By default, the Haiku operating system didn't propose any sound media in the standard installation, even if there's a nice function to play a sound at the system's startup.

Below I will describe how to play a sound once the system is started, which can be useful in order to verify your sound card is working as expected.

Well, the first step is to download a nice startup sound.

For that, you can go to the ZapSplat website on the URL below :

https://www.zapsplat.com/music/game-sound-musical-start-up-swell-with-harp-piano-and-warm-pads/

You should see the screen below, click on the MP3 button :

A registration is needed to download the MP3 sample file (I didn't find any other way to get it without registering, sorry).

Once registered, you can download the audio file under the name "zapsplat_multimedia_game_sound_start_up_musical_swell_warm_piano_harp_pads_110725.mp3"

Put it in your home directory, under the folder name of your choice (like "Sounds" for instance).

Then open -in the preferences the application "Sounds" like below :

Click on "Startup" and then indicate the exact path of the audio file previously downloaded and select "Audio file > Other " :

Once the audio file is confirmed, click on the play button to verify it's fine :

Nice !

Now close the window and restart your system.

Did you heard the nice startup sound once Haiku desktop is displayed ?

If so then well done, you are now an expert on the system startup :)
