Progress on FireFox port

The port of Firefox for Haiku has made some progresses recently with the possibility to play videos from YouTube.

Please note the software is not yet available, and there are still some points to be resolved before being useable.

However the trend is good since this summer.

For those who are curious, a screenshot has been published recently by Kenz on Haiku forums, showing Firefox playing a video from YouTube.

With this initial version, no sound was audible in the video and the decoding is software only.

However a recent post in the Haiku forums shows that now the videos can be played with sound which is a really nice step forward !

If you are a developper and you would like to compile the software, it's possible to fork the gecko-dev repo for Haiku, but the compilation will require a lot of time the first time (5-6 hours) and at least 16 Gb of memory (check the Wiki page for the instructions).

I've been able also to play videos from YouTube (without sound) as showcased below :

The official port of Firefox is not yet available on Haiku Depot, however more and more features have been activated so far, and once the stability is there, the next step will be to have a new recipe to make it available to everyone in the official depot.

Stay tuned :)
