In this article we will review one way to restore the entire system.

If you have followed the article named "Backup your system", then you should have a backup of Haiku available on an external hard drive.

How to use this backup to restore your system ?

Pre-requisite

Before doing the restoration, you will need a live bootable USB stick.

You can create one by following the Making a Haiku USB stick on the official Haiku website, or read the Create live USB stick article on this blog.

Restoration

Plug the live USB stick into the machine you need to restore, and boot from it.

Once the Haiku live system is started, plug your external hard drive where the backup has been done.

Then mount this hard drive :

If you have followed the same procedure than me for the Backup, you must also mount the image from this drive by double clicking on it:

The "-backuphaiku" should now be available :

Now mount the internal hard drive of your machine where the restore must be done :

Launch the installer application :

The idea is that the installer will make a copy from your external USB hard drive (where the backup is) into the internal hard drive of your machine.

Select in the "Install from", the Haiku backup image and in the "Onto", the destination drive :

Click on begin to proceed.

Depending on the size of the backup to restore, the initialization before the copy might take a few minutes, so if you don't see any progress during that period, don't be afraid.

At the end, all the files of your system should be restored :)
