In this article, I'll talk about a nice native application named "StreamRadio".
It allows you to listen to radio streams over the internet.
A dedicated category has been created on this website : the "native" category.
Native means that the application is using the Haiku API and thus you should not find it on other systems.
Majority of applications are today non-native on Haiku, because writing a full application from scratch is not an easy task.
Today, we will review the StreamRadio application.
In order to install StreamRadio, go to HaikuDepot and search for "streamradio" in the "all packages" tab :
Then proceed, with the install. Once completed, you should view the below message displayed :
It indicates that all the radio streams - once bookmarked - will be available in the below config directory :
Now launch the application and select "Search>Find stations" :
Select a name of a web station :
Validate by "Add".
In case you need other criteria than the Name, you can select your preferred search criteria :
Now that a web radio is added in your list, you just need to double click on it to start listening :
On my system, I have also changed the default application to open "playlist" files via the FileTypes preferences application :
If you don't know how to do, you can check the dedicated article on this topic named "Mastering FileTypes".
Now that the playlist files will be opened by the StreamRadio application, go into the "/boot/home/config/settings/Stations" folder, and add a shortcut on LaunchBox of the web radio like below:
If you would like more information on LaunchBox, please refer to "Use LaunchBox".
Great ! Now click on the web radio in LaunchBox :
As you can see your favorite web radio will be played like a charm :)
With this method, you should be able to quickly access to any web radio under Haiku.
If you want to know more about StreamRadio, you can check to the StreamRadio user guide.
Have fun !
